American Idiot was a pretty good album so I’m not mad at it, I’d like to hear the other one though

I remember when I decided to from scratch
✍️ 管理人: ※元のスレタイが「decided to from scratch」と動詞が抜けてるのをイジってるコメントですw 正しくは「decided to start from scratch」。

They decided *what* from scratch?

Some of the songs from it have be released and/or reworked:
• Cigarettes and Valentines
• Homecoming
• Everyone’s Breaking Down
• Just Another Year
• Too Much Too Soon
• Walk Away
• Shoplifter
• Governator
• Lights Out
• Horseshoes and Handgrenades

I like the conspiracy that the band actually never lost the tapes. Just that they finished it but hated it and made some shit up why they started over

I don’t 100% believe their story.

Hard to imagine spending 6 months on 16 tracks and then just tossing them out and starting over.
“I’m not mad at it “

This reminds me of when I first came to Japan and completely stuffed up a work presentation because I’d saved the wrong file version. I was mortified at the time, but rebuilding it from scratch actually made it much better. That’s why this Green Day story feels strangely relatable, just on a wildly bigger scale. Having your master tapes stolen sounds like an absolute nightmare, but turning that disaster into American Idiot is such a brilliant example of creative resilience. Just yesterday at my local konbini, I was thinking how often life here teaches you to adapt quietly when things don’t go to plan — trains delayed, paperwork rejected, tiny daily hiccups that force a reset. Most of the time it’s annoying, but sometimes the second attempt is the one with more heart. Whether the full story is exactly true or not, the bigger lesson still lands: setbacks can push people into making something bolder than they ever would have planned.
